Head Varsity Coach Sara Ashley is a native of Pittsburgh, PA. She has a passion for all sports. In high school and college, she was active in several sports, including basketball, softball, flag football, and broomball, at the intramural and recreational levels. She had her first experience with lacrosse as a high school goalie and attack player for North Allegheny High School (Wexford, PA). It was at this time that she realized how much she enjoyed playing the game. After graduating from Miami University (OH) in 2001, she began her teaching and coaching career at Milton High School. Coach Ashley worked with a number of talented coaches to mold the Eagles into one of the best teams in the Southeast. Since leaving Milton, Coach Ashley has had the privilege of launching a program from the ground up at AHS. She is very proud of the staff that has been assembled to maximize the potential of the players here at Alpharetta. She is looking forward to making the transition to the Junior Varsity level after spending 4 seasons with Varsity players. Coach Ashley would like to thank the coaches, booster members, parents, and players that help to make this such a wonderful experience each season. Off the field, Coach Ashley continues to teach Social Studies at AHS, where she specializes in Political Science. She was just recenlty married this summer to Mr. Jay Cantrell.
Gayle Rutledge - Varsity Community Coach As a native New Yorker, Gayle Rutledge always enjoyed athletics. Growing up on Long Island, it seemed mandatory to play lacrosse. Gayle joined the first team available to her, playing women's lacrosse with the high school team as an 8th grader. She was one of the youngest players on the team. It was here, at Bay Shore High School, she truly developed her passion for the sport, and a keen eye for the goal. As 2nd Home, she was the 3rd highest scorer on the team through her 5 years of play.
Upon graduating, she attended Marist College (Poughkeepsie, NY). There Gayle, along with some colleagues, developed and led a club team for the private college. She became a role model for the new freshman coming in, and she loved watching them grow as athletes and a team. It was an amazing experience for her to see the sport become a Division 1 team before she graduated in 1998.
Gayle recently relocated to Alpharetta in May of 2005 and has always dreamed of becoming a Women's Lacrosse Coach. She has always wanted to give young women the desire to succeed as well as have fun. She believes all athletics and team sports are responsible for many of her successes, and thanks her coaches along the way. Gayle would like to follow in their footsteps and help other young women see their great potential. She is extremely grateful and very excited for this opportunity ahead.
Off the field, Gayle is a freelance Graphic Designer and Project Manager for a Design firm in Midtown Atlanta. She enjoys traveling, painting and most importantly, spending time with her husband. She looks forward to a great year with the AHS Raiders.
